Important Solar Panel Purchase Information

Solar Panel Purchase

Your solar panel purchase is one of the most important parts of a solar energy system. You should do some significant research before purchasing to ensure that you are getting the optimum benefit and required panels to make your sun energy system energy and cost efficient. For homes and businesses, there are 12 V and 24V solar panels, amorphous thin film solar panels, portable, flexible, large and small panels, and mono-crystalline or poly-crystalline solar panels.

Costs of these solar panels are determined by several factors, including size in Watts, the actual dimensions, various brands, and durability or longevity and warranties. It is important for you to know what your government requires in the way of certifications to qualify for tax incentives, as this is one major reason people want to convert to solar systems.

You can use panels individually or in a grid system. When you create a grid system, all panels should match, similar to using batteries of all the same strength and not mixing good and poor together. Durability and warranties are important, because your investment is considerable and you want the panels to pay for themselves during their lifetime to recover your investment.

The costs of your solar panel purchase is determined by size and watts produced. Cost comparisons are presented in terms of dollars per Watt output of each panel. If you have one panel that will generate 100 Watts of electricity per hour and another panel that will generate 200 Watts per hour, expect to pay double for the larger output panel. Output capacity is related to size, so that 200 Watt panel will be larger than the 100 Watt panel. By placing solar panels in a grid system, as seen on roofs, you are able to generate more power than with a single panel. You want to be sure to have enough panels to meet your power requirements, and that the number you need will fit your space available.

There are three types of cells to consider when you make your solar panel purchase.
Mono-crystalline silicon is efficient and has the smallest solar cells, thus allowing for creation of the smallest panels.
Poly-crystalline silicon is another popular choice, and also very efficient.
Amorphous thin film silicon has the smallest amount of silicon and will produce the least efficient solar cells. It takes up more area than the others because it is thin. Planning ahead will reduce the problem of having to replace these with other types before these have used up their lifetime.

Certain types of panels are more useful in different conditions. The crystalline panels are best in bright cool areas, and on large unshaded roofs. The thin film silicon panels are more efficient at higher temperatures and work better in partial shade. Using any panel in full shade is not recommended at this time, because you will not receive full benefit of its rated capacity.

There are huge benefits to switching from fossil fuel energy to renewable energy like solar and wind power, or hybrid combinations of the two. Solar panels generate clean, renewable electricity, and are great for use in remote areas with no electrical service, as well as at home in the city. One of the best examples of use of solar panels in remote areas is their use for power on satellites.

Your solar panel purchase is key to a successful, cost efficient energy system. Everything must fit together like a puzzle, or you will not get the results you could have. In addition to doing your research before buying, you should definitely consult an expert before attempting installation.
